Why is the national criminal record check needed?
Many interpreters move to North Carolina from other states. Because of this, a national check is necessary to determine the criminal history of potential interpreters. Interpreters have access to the most confidential information of individuals they interpret for, therefore, the Board and General Assembly consider the national record check to be necessary to promote the safety of all concerned.
