What are the five new categories that qualify an interpreter for a Provisional License?
Previously there were four categories for which one could obtain a
Provisional License. They are:
- Has a valid NAD Level II or III credential, or
- Holds a North Carolina Interpreter Classification System Level C, or
- Has a recognized credential from another state in the field of
interpreting/transliterating, or
- Holds at least a two-year interpreting degree from a regionally
accredited institution, or
Five new categories were added. They are:
- Holds a current EIPA Level 3 or above, or
- Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) that completes 30 hours of specified
training, or
- Oral Interpreter that completes 40 hours of specified training, or
- Cued Speech Interpreter that completes 40 hours of specified training, or
- Has accumulated 200 hours of interpreting/transliterating per year in this State or another State totaling 400 hours for the two years immediately
preceding the date of their application.
